On March 5, the Japan Atomic Power Company (JAPC) submitted a request to the national Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) concerning its evaluation of a fault zone of crushed rock at the Tsuruga Nuclear Power Station, which is owned and operated by the company.
JAPC also asked for a meeting with NRA related to actions in regard to that group’s panel of experts and the draft evaluation report.
At the proposed meeting, representatives from JAPC would be allowed to sufficiently discuss the power company’s views on the peer review released last December 10, along with the 63 problems pointed out in its objections to the draft evaluation report. JAPC also said that it would submit a written opinion on the details of the problems.
JAPC, having already asked the NRA to explain the grounds for the draft evaluation report and to provide it with an opportunity to present its views and debate them, urged the NRA to review the draft evaluation report after sufficiently carrying out “truly scientific and technological discussions.”
