Meanwhile, Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS) of Japan has introduced an agreement toward the delivery of a heavy-ion cancer therapy facility to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Toshiba ESS, which has exhibited its technological capabilities both in and outside Japan, has also been working on technological development with the National Institute for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology (QST).
Nine years ago, in 2016, Toshiba ESS delivered the world’s first rotating gantry utilizing superconductive magnets for QST’s Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC), in Japan. The company has also been striving to make heavy ion therapy facilities smaller, lighter, and more affordable.
Overseas, Toshiba ESS delivered a similar system two years ago (2023) to South Korea’s Yonsei University, with cancer therapy already beginning there.
The firm also signed a business alliance agreement on November 6, 2023, with China-based Ion Nova (Shanghai) Medical Technology Co., Ltd., and is actively seeking orders in North America.
