Shimizu, in addition to being involved in designing, constructing and maintaining nuclear power plants for many years, has been continually engaged in the decommissioning of research reactors as well as the Tokai Nuclear Power Plant, owned by the Japan Atomic Power Company (JAPC), Japan’s first commercial reactor. It has accumulated technology and experience enabling it to deal with all aspects of the nuclear power plant lifecycle.
It plans to release this fall a new, highly accurate evaluation system for activated concrete, expected to reduction decommissioning costs, and is enthusiastic to “increase orders for decommissioning engineering operations using solution systems as our weapon.” Through the cooperative agreement with Cavendish Nuclear Ltd, Shimizu will advance exchanges of information on decommissioning-related technology, and support and assist power companies planning decommissioning, from the initial consideration of decommissioning through completion of all work.
