Peach yield in Fukushima ranks second among prefectures in Japan. Exports fell temporarily to zero as a result of import restrictions in other countries in the wake of the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plants, but efforts to increase them to Thailand and Malaysia, which quickly eased their restrictions, bore fruit.

Peach exports in 2016 nearly tripled from 2015 (10.5 tons) due to direct promotion by the governor and introduction of new containers that reduced costs. Peaches still cannot be exported to Hong Kong or Taiwan, however, which were their main destinations before the earthquake, because restrictions there continue.
