At a press conference prior to the meeting, team leader Juan Carlos Lentijo confirmed the state of implementation of decommissioning activities and made follow-up comments to the previous mission. He then stated the objectives of this mission – that lessons to be learned will be shared among the international community, contributing to the enforcement of nuclear safety around the world, and more.
At the end of the mission on February 17, the team will deliver a preliminary summary report to METI.
The IAEA will also send a mission for a full safety review of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa-6 and -7 Nuclear Power Plants this summer. From February 2 through 5, Mr. Peter Tarren, Operational Safety Section, Division of Nuclear Installation Safety, and others visited the Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station for preparatory meetings.
