On October 31, Chubu Electric Power Co. announced that it would revise its efforts to improve safety at its Hamaoka-4 (BWR, 1137MWe). It will particularly focus on measures to improve response capabilities at the site in case of severe accidents.
For that reason, the power company must conduct additional site preparation, construct additional buildings, and manufacture and install new equipment and facilities. The target for completion of work to improve safety will thus be delayed one year, from September 2015 to September 2016.
Currently, Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) is carrying out a compatibility examination of Hamaoka-4 with new regulatory standards.
