Desiring to be of help to the Japanese nuclear industry in expanding its business overseas, we, the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF), carry out operations aimed at furthering such expansion. We have recently exchanged information with manufacturers supporting the NuPoC and we share that information below. On the same matter, a presentation was made to our member companies at the members forum on March 8, 2016.
Information from Toshiba ESS, Hitachi GE, MHI
The Nuclear Power Plant and Reactor Exporters’ Principles of Conduct (NuPoC) are a code of conduct for the nuclear industry. They were born from activities to develop principles of self-management to guide the industry’s activities regarding exports of nuclear power plants. The Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS), Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy Ltd. (Hitachi GE) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), were involved in their issuance, working together with global nuclear power plant exporters from the beginning, with initial drafting in 2008. On September 15, 2011, the NuPoC were officially released. (For details, please refer to the related link on this page.)
Toshiba ESS, Hitachi-GE and MHI commit themselves to sincerely endeavoring to observe the six principles provided in the NuPoC: safety; physical security; environmental protection; compensation for nuclear damage; nonproliferation; and ethics.
