The working group will clarify the positioning of organizations locally to provide medical care in nuclear emergencies, their roles and requirements, and the roles of national organizations supporting them, among other matters.
It will also consider integrating the role of medical project directors at local nuclear emergency response headquarters with that of prefectural nuclear emergency response headquarters, as shown in the guidelines for nuclear emergency preparedness, and cooperation among them. It will then work toward fleshing out the system.
Other issues to be addressed include the clarification of purposes and roles of screening at first-stage stations and examination when leaving areas for evacuations (that is, examinations for only external contaminations).
The NRA has undertaken related research and studies based on what is shown in the guidelines. A previous working group on radiation emergency medicine will be reorganized into the working group on desired medical systems for nuclear emergencies, with an additional committee member familiar with local disaster measures.
